Welcome to North American Canicross!

WHAT IS CANICROSS?

Canicross is the sport of cross-country running with your dog. Unlike simply running alongside your dog, in canicross your dog runs out front in a properly fitted pulling harness, connected to you by a bungee line and hands-free running belt.

Together, you and your dog work as a team, building fitness, learning new skills, exploring the trails, and even participating in canicross races and events. Whether you’re walking, hiking, jogging, or running, canicross is all about getting outside and accomplishing more together.

CANICROSS IS A TEAM SPORT!

While your dog may lead the way in canicross, you’re still the driver! Through training, dogs can learn cues for direction, speed, passing, slowing down, and stopping, helping you communicate clearly while moving together on the trail.

As your skills develop, so does your teamwork. Canicross is about learning to communicate, trust one another, and work together as a team every step of the way.

CANICROSS ISN'T JUST FOR SLED DOGS!

You don’t need a sled dog to enjoy canicross! Dogs of many breeds, sizes, and speeds can participate in the sport.

Whether you’re training for a canicross race, exploring your local trails, or simply looking for a new way to stay active together, canicross is about working as a team and finding the pace that works for you and your dog.

WHAT GEAR DO I NEED FOR CANICROSS?

A pulling harness, a bungee line, and a hands-free running belt—these are essential for canicross! This specialized canicross gear ensures you and your dog can move comfortably together. A well-fitted pulling harness enables your dog to pull freely, while the bungee line absorbs shock, and the running belt allows for hands-free running with dogs on the trail.
